What's New in 2.6?
  • Administrators can now create and edit their own templates using a tokens and the WYSIWYG editor (FCKEditor or RADEditor). This uses a template editor system for creating both Details templates and List templates. 
  • All previous "PackFlash" created templates are still available and still work.
  • Added additional data elements through the tokens that are available to the Details Templates and List Templates including statistics for comments, ratings, recommends...breaking up the components for the dates for management and flexible formatting...related information such as related content, categories, tags, and authors...and called out additional social networking capabilities such as Facebook "Like", Tweet/Re-tweet, and Digg.

Article Lists, Details, and Display

  • Lists can apply filters by category, issue, and author 
  • Ability to select specific issues to display in any particular list 
  • Ability to select the number of articles to display in a list
  • Ability to display the order (ascending/descending) based on the publish date, the title (alphabetical), most viewed, most emailed, or most commented on 
  • Ability to choose the template for the list (6 list templates provided)
  • Enable/Disable paging

Easily Find, Add, or Edit Articles

  • Articles can be re-assigned to someone else at simple entry with instructions on what to do next by using simple, but powerful workflow 
  • Create a summary to be used as a teaser for unauthorized users so that they register/login to see the full article details 
  • Ability to have description be Text/HTML, a file (PDF, for example), a page on your site, and external url to another website, or Video/Audio

Give Credit for Articles where Appropriate

  • Add authors and then optionally assign multiple authors from the database

Associate Any Content or File to Your Articles

  • Adding documents, files, video, mp3's to your related content makes them show up automatically in the Related Content additional module 
  • Articles can be related to each other through a category filter and displayed in the Related Content additional module 
  • Articles can have embedded inserts within them for content that is more closely tied to the material in the article.  Free form text (such as a quote), images, articles, video, or auxiliary content can all be inserted anywhere within the article via an HTML tag.  Each one of these inserts can be styled with CSS classes (5 styles included).  
  • Articles can have a one-way (associate one article to another and the other article is not associated to it), two-way (associate one article to another and they are both related to each other), or create an ad-hoc group of associations (all associated articles are related to each other without having to specifically associate them)  

Image Display and Management

  • Add an unlimited number of images to display with your article 
  • Images will display in a "rotator" that will cycle through all the images 
  • Arrows at both ends of the image thumbnails allow the user to manually rotate through the images 
  • Two different included templates allow you to choose the size of the image display 
  • Optionally add captions to each image to display at the bottom of each image on the rotation 
  • Larger images can have a link to display the larger image if chosen 
  • The image at the top of the list will be used as the image thumbnails for any list 

Share Your Articles with Others

  • Configure the module to use "Share This" functionality
  • Email a friend functionality
  • Print the article functionality
  • Allow subscription to any category (or all categories) with RSS feeds and RSS

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Rules Built Into Module

  • Article title, description, and keywords are used as the defaults for the meta title, description, and keywords for SEO purposes 
  • Ability to modify each article's title, description, and keywords for search independent of the article's SEO meta title, description, and keywords (they can be independent if you choose them to be) 
  • Article title uses the H1 tag for search engine prominence on the product detail page 

Comments

  • Turn on and off the ability for users to make comments
  • Turn on and off the ability for users to make comments anonymously
  • Turn on and off the whether comments require administrator approval
  • Turn on and off notification of new comments (with email address provided)
  • Comments can be approved or unapproved at any time

Issue Management

  • Articles can be grouped within an issue and be published all at the same time by publishing the issue. 
  • Issues can have a publish date, title, description, and image (usually cover image). 
  • Issues can be set as the current issue. 
  • Issues can have an article detail page separate from how the rest of the publishing module works allowing for an issue to look more self-contained 
  • Issue list module can display all issues with the cover stories in a grid structure that allows someone to choose the appropriate issue and go to the Table of Contents for that issue 
  • Issue can be displayed as a Table of Contents module with all articles within the issue dispayed and the ability to jump to other issues through the use of a dropdown menu.  In the Table of Contents, the cover story will show first with the featured articles next, then all other articles. 
  • Icons in Issue Management tell what is approved, not approved, and which is the current issue 

Flexible Workflow Rules

  • Login to be able to see your queue with any actions that need to be taken. 
  • Email notifications (tied to role) for assignments
  • Keeps track of approval statuses, dates, and specific requestor action
  • Items marked as priority will be tagged appropriately. 
  • Administrators with the correct rights will be able to see articles awaiting publication. 
  • Administrators will have the capability of seeing global staff workload.  

Allow Users to Search Your Article Database

  • By default, search only searches article titles and keywords for speed 
  • Ability to also have search crawl through sub-title, description, and detail text 
  • Ability to choose the search display template (as a list) 
  • Ability to exclude any category or issue from search results (perfect for displaying internal articles but not allowing them to get mixed with external content) 
  • Ability to specify where the article detail page is for any search result (great for allowing someone to read multiple articles in a search results and easily get back to the search results page) 
  • Ability to track common search keywords and phrases to allow an administrator to modify content appropriately
